Chettinad | Tamilnadu
Chettinad, the land of Chettiars is a region in the Siva Ganga district of Tamil Nadu, Karaikudi being the capital of Chettinad.
Specialities include the famous Chettinad houses having sprawling courtyards, intricate architecture mostly embellished with marble and Burma teak and interesting colors.
The Chettinad Cuisine or the aachi samayal (Grandma’s cooking) is famous worldwide with its spices and mouth watering delicacies.
Most of the famous Chettinad temples were built during the Chola period. The Chettiars played a vital role in maintaining and developing these temples.
While all of the above information are readily available in Wikipedia for further reading, I present you a simple document of what i saw in this places. All these pictures are taken on the same day and covers only a part of Chettinad.
